- “Blows away much of the competition,” according to Jane Anson.
- The wine is being offered for approximately £6,000 (12×75) SEP.
- 2008 and 2012 are other good value options.
The 2020 Château Ausone has been released for €500 per bottle ex-négociant, up 19% on the 2019 release.
The wine is likely to be offered by the international trade for £6,000 per 12×75, 14% more than the current Market Price of the 2019.
The 2020 vintage marks the first year of official conversion to organic farming at the estate.
Only those critics able to visit the château in-person have been able to taste the 2020 samples.
Jane Anson (Decanter) rated today’s release 99-points. However, she noted that it “could go up after tasting in bottle, a potential 100 points”. Calling it “powerful”, to her “Ausone is just a masterclass in how to take apart and then put back together a terroir”.
James Lawther (JancisRobinson.com) gave it 18+ and said it had “striking potential”.
While Liv-ex’s Benchmark Critic Neal Martin has not tasted the wine yet, followers of Anson and Quarin who awarded 99-points will find value in today’s release.
Chapelle d’Ausone 2020 has also been released for €120 per bottle ex-négociant, equal to the 2019. The wine is likely to be offered for £1,400 per 12×75 internationally.
